Whilst most visitors don't come to Iquitos for its golfing opportunities, the recently opened Amazon Golf Course offers a particularly unusual experience, being the only course available in the whole of the Peruvian Amazon.

As recently as 2004, the nine holes making up the Iquitos Amazon Golf Course were created amidst jungle growth, and the result means that everywhere you look, you are greeted by views of lush rainforest and winding rivers. Mature Amarillo Palm trees edge all of the fairways, whilst further landscaping has created many challenging conditions, which even include water holes filled with piranhas!

The Amazon Golf Course is easy to reach and is just a 30-minute drive from the centre of Iquitos, and a mere ten minutes from the airport, being conveniently close to the Nauta Highway. Visitors are always welcomed here and considering the unusual nature of the course, green fees are extremely inexpensive, operating on a 'pay and play' basis.

Attractions include a driving range, five-star hotel, various lodges, a clubhouse, a number of neighbouring restaurants, boat trips, and even a series of exceptional nature reserves, close to Iquitos. Be assured, a round at the Amazon Golf Course will be extremely memorable, and a likely highlight of any visit to Peru.
